BIGNESS

The original drawing was entirely hand-crafted using the classical ink wash technique. 
 
Absolute and Relative Bigness
This drawing depicts bigness itself. We can see its edges on one side, but we don’t know if it ever ends on the other. Most likely, it doesn’t. Even the largest buildings—both real and those that were only ever designed—will inevitably fall short in comparison. At some point, it no longer matters which one is taller or bigger.
This work, of course, references the Bigness section of Rem Koolhaas’s book SMLXL. But bigness is not just something absolute. In the real world, bigness is relative, and it would be foolish to deny its significance. A building can be ugly, but if it’s big, it becomes a subject of discussion.
